Kids Room Design

Most families transition around age three to four, once the child is out of a crib and into a proper bed. Designing with modular, non-infant-specific furniture from the start avoids a full redesign at this point.

A fully themed room — elaborate cartoon murals, character furniture — is charming but ages quickly and is expensive to update. A neutral modular base with theme expressed through inexpensive, swappable decor gives most of the charm with much better longevity.

A bunk bed setup is the standard space-efficient solution, but plan separate storage for each child even in a shared room — shared storage is a common source of daily friction between siblings.

A softer flooring option, or an area rug over standard flooring, reduces injury from falls during play. Avoid highly polished or glossy tile finishes, which can be slippery for a child running or playing.
